The first 3 GOP voter suppression bills pass the Senate

The Justice Department was already closely monitoring the Arizona audit, with a top official in the civil rights division, Pamela S. Karlan, writing to the state Senate president in a letter last month that the recount could be in violation of federal law by leaving ballots at “risk of damage or loss.” She also raised questions about the auditor’s stated plans to “identify voter registrations that did not make sense” and interview voters via phone and “physical canvassing,” which raised the risk of voter intimidation. ~Washington Post

Supporting the Juneteenth holiday is a gesture that lets Republicans pretend to acknowledge the nation’s original sin of slavery even as they insist that racism is confined to our national past. At the same time, however, Republicans across the country — egged on by Fox News and the right-wing media chorus — are trying to pass laws barring schools from teaching the factual history of racism and white supremacy in this country under the guise of attacking “critical race theory,” a set of academic concepts they stripped of its original meaning and context. ~Washington Post

COVID-19 – Delta variant looks like trouble

A recent survey of more than 5,000 readers of Cruise Critic, a popular review site, found that 80% of respondents preferred to sail on a ship with a vaccine requirement, while 13% preferred one without such a mandate. ~Cruise Critic
